Martha Davis

Mrs. Martha Davis, was a kind and loving soul. She was born December 17, 1926 in Memphis Tennessee. She married the love of ther life Spencer Davis Sr. and together they settled in Brooklyn, New York. After Spencer preceded her in death, Martha alone reared six loving children: Bernadette (Bonnie), Josephine (Terry), Diane, Spencer, Jr. (Huckey), Martin (Abdul) and LaTanya (Tammy). Martha Davis's family was the crowning achievement of her life. This is where she drew her strength and where she leaves a profound and lasting legacy. She was the undisputed matriach of the Davis family. She made her house a home for her own children and a welcoming refuge for the children of others whom she embraced as though they were her own. She glorified God by her singleminded devotion to family, and by modeling for her family the virtues of hard work, perseverance, Christian humility and loving kindness. Her children and her children's children through several generation rise up and call her blessed. Throughout her life Martha Davis was a woman of many talents. She was a gifted seamstress who also taught crocheting. She was an artist who enjoyed collecting favorite expressions, and scrapbooking items of interest, and occasionally composing songs. She was a great cook. As hobbies, she played tennis, ran track, rode bicycles and frequently joined family and friends playing bingo at various neighborhood centers. She was also civic minded and frequently participated in activities of community uplift. As a community activist, she served as captain of the Gravesend Houses Tenant Patrol. Martha was a devout Christian and served as a spiritual shepherd to many, and a friend to the friendless. "Ms. Davis", as she was called, cared deeply for people and had a natural affinity and love for serving others. She and her children were devoted members of Coney Island Gospel Assembly Church in Brooklyn, New York. Sadly, on Monday, February 15, 2016, Mrs. Martha Davis departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest after a long illness. Martha is preceded in death by her mother Minneola Malone, her father Samuel Louis Malone, her spouse Spencer Davis Sr., twin sister Mary Malone McEaddy, sister Dora Thorpe, sister Geraldine Hancock, sister Margaret White and several nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her daughters - Bernadette, Josephine, Diane and LaTanya; Sons - Spencer and Martin; Son-in-law Clarence, two Daughters-in-law Sharon Davis and Michelle Walker Davis, One sister-Ollie P. Shipp. Grandchildren - Tahnee, Jade, Tasha, Davinia, Abdul, Destiny Abdul, Morgan and Malcolm: Great-grandchildren * Halle, Miles, Morgan and Zoe; and a host of loving family members and friends. Even though she is gone from this earthly life, she leaves a profound legacy by means of the kind and loving spirit she modeled for us all.
